Winter Property Inspections

Providing Property Inspections during the Winter months for summer residents is a foundational service that has been provided by LCIA for many years.

The LCIA employs 6 inspectors who visit ~350 properties twice a month September through May weather permitting. When the ice is forming, breaking up or otherwise unsafe inspectors do not make it out to island properties. During each 5-10 minute inspection they look for storm/animal damage, open doors/windows, or signs of intruders (very rare). If they see something easy to fix like a fallen branch against the house or a door left open – they often fix it. For anything more substantial they take a photo and have Esther contact the homeowner.

Our inspectors have been able to alert summer residents of potentially costly hazards in a timely manner. This service, available only to LCIA members, is an example of LCIA filling a need that is unique to the Les Cheneaux Islands, with so many Islanders closing their residence over the winter.

Members wishing to have their properties inspected pay a small inspection fee in addition to their membership. If you are interested in purchasing inspection service, you can add your inspection addresses to your membership profile and put your desired service in your shopping cart.

Inspections are $100 for each main house/cottage plus $25 for each additional structure on that property.

Fun Fact: LCIA has six property inspectors who make their way around the islands all winter long.
